Best Fishing Weekend Getaway Near the GTA
Leave the city Friday night, be on the water Saturday morning. Lake Dalrymple Resort is the complete fishing getaway near Toronto, with lakefront cottages, fishing boat rentals, and a lake full of pike, bass, walleye, and muskie.
Why Lake Dalrymple Is the Perfect Fishing Getaway Near Toronto
If you have spent hours scrolling through Ontario fishing destinations trying to find something close enough for a weekend but far enough to feel like a real escape, you just found it. Lake Dalrymple Resort is a fishing resort near Toronto that sits 90 minutes north of the city in the Kawartha Lakes region, right on the shore of a 3,400-acre spring-fed lake loaded with Northern Pike, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Muskie, Crappie, and Yellow Perch.
What makes this different from just renting a boat at a random lake? Everything is in one place. You book a cottage. You rent a fishing boat at the dock. You grab live bait from our on-site store. You walk to the water. That is it. No coordinating three different vendors, no trailering your boat across the province, no driving back and forth from a hotel to a public launch. At Lake Dalrymple Resort, the lake is your front yard and the fishing starts the moment you want it to.
Whether you are a die-hard angler planning a solo trip or a family looking for a fishing getaway near Toronto where the kids can catch their first perch while you chase trophy pike in the next bay over, this is the weekend that sticks. This is the one you come back to.
What Your Fishing Weekend Looks Like
Here is how a typical weekend plays out at our fishing resort Ontario anglers keep coming back to. Two days, no rush, all the fishing you can handle.
Arrive and Settle In
Check into your cottage, unload the cooler, fire up the BBQ on your private deck, and let the quiet of Carden Township replace the noise of the city. Walk down to the dock and scout the water before dark. Tomorrow is going to be a good day.
Early Bird Gets the Pike
The best fishing on Lake Dalrymple is early. Pick up live bait from our convenience store, grab your boat at the dock, and head into the weedy bays of Upper Lake Dalrymple where the pike are feeding. Cast big lures along the weed edges and hold on. Northern Pike are aggressive, hard-hitting, and the go-to fish on this lake.
Switch Species, Explore the Lake
Move into the deeper northern basin and target walleye around the rocky points near Avery Point, or chase smallmouth bass along the shoals. Try top-water lures along the lily pads for largemouth action. When you need a break, cruise the 3,400 acres and find your own quiet bay. The lake is big enough to disappear.
Cook Your Catch
Back at the cottage, cook today's catch on the BBQ while the sunset paints the sky orange over the lake. Sit on the deck with a cold drink, swap fishing stories with the family, and let the loons serenade you. This is why you came.
One More Run
You have time for one more session before heading home. Target the weed beds you found yesterday, try a new bay, or take the kids out for some easy panfish. Crappie and yellow perch are perfect for beginners and they make excellent table fare. Return the boat, pack up, and drive home relaxed, rested, and already planning your next trip.

Quick answers to help you plan your weekend at Lake Dalrymple Resort.
Is Lake Dalrymple Resort a good fishing resort near Toronto?
Yes. Lake Dalrymple Resort is one of the closest full-service fishing resorts to Toronto, just 90 minutes from downtown. The lake holds Northern Pike, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Muskie, Black Crappie, and Yellow Perch. We offer fishing boat rentals, live bait at our on-site store, 22 lakefront cottages, and direct lake access from the property.
Can I do a weekend fishing trip or do I need to book a full week?
Weekend stays are one of our most popular options, especially for GTA visitors who want to get out of the city without committing to a full week. Weekend rates are available across our cottage inventory, and boat rentals can be booked by the half-day, day, or across the entire weekend. Summer weekends fill up fast, so we recommend booking early.
Do I need to bring my own boat?
No. We rent small outboard fishing boats right at the resort, so you do not need to trailer your own vessel. Our boats are docked and ready to go. If you do prefer to bring your own boat, docking is available for guests. A valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is required for all motorized boats in Ontario.
What is the best season for a fishing getaway at Lake Dalrymple?
Every season offers something different. Spring is outstanding for Northern Pike as they feed aggressively in the shallow bays after spawning. Summer opens up bass and muskie seasons and is the busiest time at the resort. Fall is arguably the most underrated time to visit, with cooler water, aggressive fish, fewer crowds, and the Ontario fall colours surrounding the lake. Our cottages are open spring through fall.
Is the resort family friendly?
Absolutely. Lake Dalrymple Resort is a family fishing resort Ontario families return to year after year. Kids can fish for crappie and perch off the dock while experienced anglers chase pike and muskie. Beyond fishing, we have kayaks, a sandy beach, a playground, climbing area, volleyball, horseshoes, shuffleboard, and hiking trails. Pets are welcome too.
Do I need an Ontario fishing license?
Yes. Anyone aged 18 to 64 needs a valid Ontario Outdoors Card and a fishing licence. You can purchase both online through the Ontario government website before your trip. Check the Ontario Fishing Regulations Summary for FMZ 17 for current open seasons and catch limits.
Can I bring my dog on a fishing weekend?
Yes. Our cottages are pet friendly. Quiet, housebroken dogs are welcome and must be kept on leash while outside. We will ask to see proof of vaccination at check in. There are trails around the property perfect for walks with your dog between fishing sessions.
How far in advance should I book a weekend fishing trip?
Summer weekends fill up months in advance. Spring and fall weekends are easier to book on shorter notice and often come with lower rates. We recommend reserving your cottage and boat as early as you can to guarantee your preferred dates.
