Your Kawartha Lakes Cottage, Right on the Water

The Kawartha Lakes region has been Ontario's cottage country for generations. But most visitors flock to the same handful of overcrowded, overpriced lakes where you can hear your neighbour's radio from across the bay. If you are searching for cottage rentals Kawartha Lakes visitors actually enjoy in peace, Lake Dalrymple Resort is the answer you have been looking for.

Our resort sits on the eastern shore of Lake Dalrymple, a 3,400-acre spring-fed lake in Carden Township within the Municipality of Kawartha Lakes. The lake is divided into two distinct basins connected by a narrow channel, which means more shoreline, more structure, more fishing spots, and far fewer boats competing for the same water. It is the kind of lake that feels private even on a busy Saturday in July.

With 22 fully equipped lakefront cottages, fishing boat rentals right at the dock, a convenience store stocked with live bait and Kawartha Dairy ice cream, and direct lake access steps from your door, Lake Dalrymple Resort delivers the complete Kawartha Lakes cottage experience without the crowds, the noise, or the inflated pricing that comes with the more well-known lakes in the region.

About Lake Dalrymple

Lake Dalrymple is a spring-fed lake on the western edge of the Kawartha Lakes system. Unlike many of the shallower, muddier lakes in the region, Lake Dalrymple's spring-fed water stays clean and clear through the season. The lake covers approximately 3,400 acres and reaches depths of up to 35 feet in the lower basin, creating a varied underwater landscape that supports a thriving warm-water fishery.

Upper Lake Dalrymple is characterized by shallow, weedy bays and marshy shoreline that hold excellent populations of Northern Pike and Largemouth Bass. Lower Lake Dalrymple is deeper with rocky shoals, submerged points, and long weed lines where Walleye, Smallmouth Bass, and Muskellunge hunt. The lake sits within Fisheries Management Zone 17 and is widely regarded by local anglers as one of the most productive and underrated fishing lakes in the Kawarthas.

The surrounding landscape is Carden Township, a rural area known for its limestone alvars, grassland bird habitat, and quiet country roads. The Carden Alvar Conservation Area is one of Ontario's top five birding destinations and sits just minutes from the resort. It is the kind of natural setting that feels a world away from the city, even though the GTA is only 90 minutes south.

Kawartha Lakes Cottage Rental FAQ

Answers to the questions Kawartha Lakes visitors ask before booking at Lake Dalrymple Resort.

Where exactly is Lake Dalrymple in the Kawartha Lakes?

Lake Dalrymple is located on the western edge of the Kawartha Lakes system in Carden Township, near Sebright, Ontario. It is within the Municipality of Kawartha Lakes. The resort sits on the eastern shore of the lake at 230 Lake Dalrymple Road. Orillia is about 25 minutes north and Lindsay is about 45 minutes southeast.

Is Lake Dalrymple connected to the other Kawartha Lakes?

Lake Dalrymple is part of the broader Kawartha Lakes watershed but is not directly connected to the main chain of lakes along the Trent-Severn Waterway. This is actually one of its biggest advantages. The lake does not get through-traffic from boaters on the canal system, which means quieter water, less congestion, and a more private cottage experience.

How does Lake Dalrymple compare to other Kawartha Lakes for fishing?

Lake Dalrymple is one of the most productive fishing lakes in the region. It holds Northern Pike, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Muskie, Black Crappie, and Yellow Perch. The spring-fed water quality and the variety of structure across two connected basins give anglers more diverse fishing than many of the more popular Kawartha lakes.

Are the cottages right on the lake?

Yes. All 22 cottages are lakefront, situated along the eastern shore of Lake Dalrymple. You are steps from the water, the dock, and the sandy beach. Every cottage has a private deck with lake and forest views.

Do you offer weekend stays or only weekly rentals?

We offer both. Weekend rates are available across our cottage inventory, especially during spring and fall. Summer weekly rates are also available. Check the Seasonal Pricing page on our website for a full breakdown, or contact us at 705-833-2400.

Can I bring my dog to the resort?

Yes. All 22 cottages are pet friendly. Quiet, housebroken dogs are welcome. They must stay on leash outside the cottage and be cleaned up after. Bring proof of vaccination to check in.

Can I rent a boat at the resort?

Yes. We rent small outboard fishing boats with half-day, full-day, multi-day, and full-week packages. Boats are docked right at the resort. If you prefer to bring your own boat, docking is available. A valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is required.

What is the nearest town for groceries and supplies?

The nearest full grocery stores and services are in Orillia, approximately 25 minutes from the resort. We recommend stocking up before you arrive. Our on-site convenience store carries live bait, snacks, cold drinks, and Kawartha Dairy ice cream.

Is Lake Dalrymple busy in the summer?

No. Compared to the more well-known Kawartha Lakes like Sturgeon Lake, Pigeon Lake, or Balsam Lake, Lake Dalrymple sees significantly less boat traffic. The lake is not on the Trent-Severn Waterway, so it does not get through-traffic from canal boaters. Even on peak summer weekends, the 3,400-acre lake feels spacious and uncrowded.

How far in advance should I book?

Summer weeks fill up months ahead. Weekend availability is typically easier to find in spring and fall. For the best selection, especially if you need a specific cottage or multiple cottages for a group, book as early as possible.
