The Best Group Fishing Trip Ontario Location for Leagues and Buddies

Organizing a group fishing trip is supposed to be the easy part. But most Ontario fishing lodges make it complicated: limited boats, cramped cabins, long drives, and shared facilities with strangers. Lake Dalrymple Resort solves all of that. We have the cottages, the boats, the bait, and the lake to handle groups from 4 to 60+ without anyone stepping on each other.

Located in Carden Township on the shore of a 3,400-acre spring-fed lake in the Kawartha Lakes region, our resort is one of the most accessible group fishing near Toronto destinations you will find. Most anglers arrive from the GTA in under two hours. That means more time on the water and less time on the highway, which is exactly what your group wants.

Whether you are running a bass league looking for a tournament venue, a group of old friends who get together once a year for pike, or a company that wants a fishing trip instead of a golf day, Lake Dalrymple Resort is the overnight group fishing trip Ontario location that delivers.

Why Fishing Groups and Leagues Choose Lake Dalrymple

Here is what sets this fishing league resort Ontario anglers trust apart from the typical fishing lodge experience.

🚢

Multiple Boats Available

Rent several small outboard fishing boats so every pair or team in your group has their own vessel. No waiting, no sharing, no rotating.

🏠

Private Cottages, Not Bunkhouses

Your group stays in real cottages with full kitchens, private decks, and BBQs. Not a shared cabin with strangers or a noisy lodge hallway.

🎣

Serious Multi-Species Fishery

Pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, muskie, crappie, and perch. Enough variety to run a meaningful tournament or keep everyone busy.

🏆

Event Space for Weigh-Ins

Indoor event space and outdoor pavilion for weigh-ins, award ceremonies, group meals, and league presentations.

Group Trip Formats That Work

Whether your league fishes one day or your buddy group books a full week, we have a format that fits.

Day Trip

The Derby Day

Drive up Saturday morning, fish all day, weigh in by late afternoon, hand out prizes, and head home. Perfect for fishing leagues running monthly or seasonal tournaments close to the GTA. No cottage booking required, just boats and bait.

Overnight

The Weekend Run

Arrive Friday evening, fish Saturday and Sunday, BBQ Saturday night. The overnight group fishing trip Ontario anglers ask for most. Book a block of cottages and boats so the whole crew stays and fishes together. This is the format buddy groups love.

Multi-Day

The Full Send

Three to seven days on the water. Take over a row of cottages, fish every basin, target every species, and cook your catch each evening. Ideal for annual trips, retirement celebrations, and groups that refuse to rush.

The Fish Your Group Will Target

Lake Dalrymple sits within Fisheries Management Zone 17 and holds a diverse warm-water fishery that gives tournament organizers and casual groups plenty to work with. Two connected basins, Upper Lake Dalrymple (shallow, weedy, pike and bass territory) and Lower Lake Dalrymple (deep, rocky, walleye and muskie water), mean your group can split up and still find excellent fishing.

Largemouth Bass

Weed beds, shallows, lily pads

Smallmouth Bass

Rocky points and shoals

Walleye

Deep basin, dawn and dusk

Muskie

Deep weed lines, patience pays

Crappie & Perch

Docks, brush, great eating

How a Group Weekend Plays Out

A sample itinerary for the most popular group format: the Friday-to-Sunday buddy trip.

Friday Evening

Arrive, Claim Your Cottage, Light the BBQ

Your group rolls in from the GTA. Everyone picks their cottage, throws supplies in the kitchen, and fires up the deck BBQs. Walk the dock, scout the water, talk strategy, and settle in. Tomorrow the competition starts.

Saturday Morning

Boats Out, Lines In

Grab live bait from the store and hit the water early. Each boat team heads to their spot. Pike anglers push into the shallow bays of Upper Lake Dalrymple. Bass and walleye hunters move into the deeper structure of the northern basin. The lake is big enough that everyone finds their own water.

Saturday Evening

Weigh-In, BBQ, Stories

Back at the dock for the unofficial weigh-in. Biggest pike wins bragging rights. The group pools together for a massive deck BBQ. Someone always catches a fish nobody expected. Someone always has a story nobody believes. This is the point of the whole trip.

Sunday Morning

One More Run

Last chance to settle the score. A quick morning session before packing up. Catch-and-release the final fish, return the boats, and start planning next year's trip on the drive home.

Group Logistics Made Simple

Coordinating a group fishing Ontario trip should not feel like a second job. Here is what we handle so you do not have to.

What the Resort Provides

Multiple fishing boat rentals (half-day through full week), live bait and basic tackle at the on-site convenience store, 22 self-catering cottages with full kitchens and BBQs, docking for guests bringing their own boats, indoor event space and outdoor pavilion for weigh-ins and group meals, snacks and cold drinks, and Kawartha Dairy ice cream for the victory celebration.

Group Fishing Trip Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for league organizers, trip planners, and anyone coordinating a group fishing outing.

How many people can you accommodate for a group fishing trip?

With 22 cottages sleeping two to six people each, we can accommodate groups of 60 or more. We also have indoor event space and an outdoor pavilion for weigh-ins, group meals, and presentations. Contact us at 705-833-2400 to discuss your group size and layout needs.

Can we rent enough boats for a large group?

Yes. We have multiple small outboard fishing boats available for rental. For large groups, we recommend booking boats and cottages at the same time to guarantee availability. Contact us early for group boat reservations.

Is Lake Dalrymple good enough for a fishing league tournament?

Absolutely. The lake holds Northern Pike, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Muskie, Black Crappie, and Yellow Perch across 3,400 acres of water. Two connected basins provide varied structure including shallow weed beds, deep rock shoals, and open water. The fishery is strong enough to support competitive tournament formats.

Do you have space for weigh-ins and award ceremonies?

Yes. We have an indoor event space and an outdoor pavilion that fishing leagues and groups can use for weigh-ins, award presentations, group meals, and planning sessions. Contact us in advance to arrange your setup.

Does everyone in the group need a fishing licence?

Yes. Every angler aged 18 to 64 needs a valid Ontario Outdoors Card and a fishing licence. You can purchase both online through the Ontario government website. Make sure every member of your group has their licence sorted before the trip. Children under 18 can fish without a licence when accompanied by a licensed adult.

Do boat operators need a boating licence?

Yes. A valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) is required for anyone operating a motorized boat in Ontario. This applies to both rental boats and privately owned vessels. Each boat operator in your group must have their own valid PCOC.

Do you offer group rates?

For groups booking multiple cottages and boats, please call 705-833-2400 or email [email protected]. We will work with you on cottage selection, boat availability, and pricing for your group size and dates.

Can we bring our own boats?

Yes. Docking is available at the resort for guests who bring their own boats. Let us know at the time of booking how many boats your group is bringing so we can confirm docking space.

What if some members of the group do not fish?

No problem. Non-anglers in your group can enjoy kayaking from the beach, hiking trails, lawn games including volleyball, horseshoes, and shuffleboard, or simply relaxing on the deck. The resort has enough activities for everyone.

How far in advance should we book a group fishing trip?

We recommend three to six months ahead for large groups, especially for summer and early fall weekends. Weekend spots fill fast during prime fishing season. Contact us as soon as your dates are confirmed so we can lock in the right number of cottages and boats for your group.
